Greater Bargoed Communities First Partnership

Communities First is a flagship Welsh Assembly Government programme that targets the most deprived areas of Wales, as defined by the Index of Multiple Deprivation and is divided on an electoral ward basis.  Under these guidelines Caerphilly County Borough has 13 Communities First wards and 6 sub wards.  The programme is designed to alleviate poverty and disadvantage in the poorest communities by encouraging local people to take an active role in the regeneration of their area.

The Greater Bargoed Communities First Partnership covers the wards of Gilfach, Bargoed and Aberbargoed and is made up of representatives from community groups & residents including the Gilfach Scouts, BAG Credit Union, Young @ Hearts and the Rotary Club of Bargoed. Statutory bodies including Caerphilly County Borough Council, the Police and the Local Health Board and voluntary organisations such as GAVO (Gwent Association for Voluntary Organisations) and Groundwork Caerphilly are also represented on the Partnership.  There are also members that represent the business sector.

The Partnership meets every 6 weeks to discuss issues that affect people locally and are always looking for new members.  So, if you’d like to become more involved in what goes on in Gilfach, Bargoed or Aberbargoed, or have any ideas for things you’d like to see going on, please contact us.

You can also find out more about the various projects the Partnership is involved with by accessing the projects and events section of the website.
