Victorian Fayre, Lantern Parade and Firework Display

21/12/2009 12:00:00

Bargoed's Christmas Event is a huge success!

Bargoed’s Christmas event was a huge success! The day started with a Victorian Fayre held in the Emporium Car Park with Cllr Dianne Price, Mayor of Bargoed, giving the opening address before Wayne David MP officially opened the event.

The car park had 2 marquees, the first a craft and gift marquee with a number of stalls that offered a range of gift ideas for Christmas including jewellery and hand made cards. Phil Dando’s Jazz Band and Phil Dando’s Brass Quintet performed throughout the day and kept everyone entertained. The second marquee offered children’s entertainment including lantern making, a pottery workshop, costumed street entertainers, face painting and a Punch and Judy Show. Santa took time out from his busy Christmas schedule to join his helpers in Santa’s Grotto to take last minute present requests from the children and even managed to bring some snow with him.

The lantern parade set off at 4.30, from the car park, led by Cefn Fforest Jazz Band and, of course Santa accompanied by Bargoed Carnival Queen. The parade made it’s way through Bargoed down to Hanbury Road car park where the day ended with a spectacular firework display.
We hope that everyone who attended enjoyed the day. Many thanks to everyone who supported the event, Bargoed Town Council, Bargoed Chamber of Trade, Friends of Greater Bargoed, CCBC, Heads of the Valleys and Heddlu Gwent Police.
